The Narrative Eye volunteers are the driving force of everything that we do, from facilitators on our courses and workshops, graphic designers and researchers.

Our volunteer programme enables you to gain a wide range of experiences and have the opportunity to travel across the UK and internationally.

Volunteer Programme

Our volunteer programme is designed to provide you with the skills and tools required to confidently represent Narrative Eye in the work that we do.

The programme includes:

Training in world history and literature

Personal development

The chance to lead on your own projects

Training in aspects of business management, drafting grant and funding proposals

You will also have continued support from a mentor and the rest of the Narrative Eye team.

When did you first volunteer with Narrative Eye? 
2011

Why did you choose to volunteer? 
To gain experience of event co-ordination and offer my input as a sales consultant.

What are some of the projects that you have contributed to as a volunteer?

The Phoenix (book editing); UNIA Blue Plaque Unveiling Ceremony; Marcus Garvey Memorial; Othello/Shakespeare Workshop at Waterloo Action Centre; Blackamoores Book Tour (UK & US); The Empire Needs Men Exhibition and Workshops.

What have been some of the most rewarding things about volunteering with Narrative Eye? 
The venues and places that we have visited that I may never have gone to; being able to work with people of a broad age range; gaining experience and knowledge through the work – active learning.

What have been some of the most challenging things about volunteering with Narrative Eye? 
Managing less experienced volunteers. Managing tight timescales and last minute interventions.
